Failed 63 on First attempt

Just got back from doing the series 63 and I missed passing by 3 questions (I got 24/33 on state and federal securities acts and 16/27 on communications with customers and ethical practices). I do admit I did rush the exam prep a little bit and was hoping to get borderline passing but the topics were just confusing for me. Are there any tips or any other resources someone can recommend to helping me pass?

Also will I have to wait 30 days to retake the exam or are there ways to bypass that? Thank you

Hi @Melody_Sawayn,

You were super close, 3 questions off is frustrating, but it also means you’re right on track. With just ~16 hours of prep, you’re off to a great start. I’d recommend building on that by taking several more full-length practice tests. Right now, you’ve only taken a few and scoring around 73, which is borderline passing. Aim to take at least 5 practice exams and score consistently in the mid to upper 80s before your next attempt. This will give you the best shot at passing with confidence. I also recommend treating these tests like the real exam by using the allotted time and turning off instant feedback mode. This will give you a more accurate picture of your true scoring level.

Looking at your exam summary, you scored best on definitions and lowest on registrations. I’d suggest doing a focused review of the registration section, retaking the quizzes there, and then following up with a full practice exam. After each test, review every missed question in detail, don’t just memorize the answer, but make sure you fully understand the concept and why the other choices were incorrect. This deeper understanding will help boost your overall score and reduce careless mistakes.

FINRA does requires a 30-day waiting period before you can retake the Series 63 after a failed attempt. While that can feel like a setback, it’s actually a perfect window to shore up weak areas and lock in your knowledge so you can walk into the next exam ready to pass.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to support you as you study.

Thank you,
Mataia
