Series 6 - Passed 1st Try - Thoughts

This is the second exam I’ve taken, and passed, utilizing Achievable. Before Achievable, I had almost zero exposure to any testable material. So, the moral of this story is that Achievable works!

The SIE test was very much aligned with the content that was provided by Achievable. While I was certainly nervous about taking the test, the questions I received were in line with those that I had as study material here. It was only a matter of if the material I had learned would stick around in my head long enough to take the exam.

I cannot say the same for the Series 6.

The verbiage, the structure of the questions, even some of the content of the questions were not topics readily available in my noggin. I’m not saying that they weren’t covered. I’m sure they were. But I was sitting at a 96% on the confidence scale via Achievable walking in, and as soon as I started the test…I felt closer to 50%.

It is apparent that the content I learned put me in a spot to pass, since I did. But the Series 6 questions leaned heavily on tertiary attributes rather than the obvious differentiators.

What I would suggest to anyone that utilizes Achievable alone, like I did, as a test prep course would be:

  • Know who is testing you - FINRA.
    • Conservative guesses are the best.
  • The review questions are your buddy.
    • The practice exams spread out my weaknesses with my strengths, whereas the review questions focused on what I needed to work on.
  • Logic wins.
    • You should always be able to eliminate at least two of the questions.
      • Lean toward the answer that protects the retail investors.

It was borderline annoying when reading some of the questions. They were incredibly similar to questions I had read here, but none of the answers were in line with what I had been practice testing.

It’s certainly my fault as well. I shouldn’t have assumed the structure of the questions would be so similar.

Maybe I just enjoy the aesthetic layout here.

Hi @Abraham_Strosin, thank you for posting, and congratulations on passing both the SIE and Series 6. What an accomplishment!

We’re glad Achievable was able to help you prepare for both exams. We also appreciate the thoughtful feedback and advice; it is helpful for other learners preparing for these exams.

You’re right that FINRA can make the wording and structure of the actual questions feel different. We do our best to prepare learners for the concepts and question styles they’ll encounter on the exam, but FINRA guards its exact questions very closely, so we cannot replicate them exactly.

Wishing you the best on your next adventure!

Thank you,
Mataia
