Coming over from another prep provider, as I was scoring in the high 80’s/low 90’s, and although I felt prepared after over a month of prep with those scores going in, I failed the Series 66 with a 67, with my breakdown as follows:
Economic Factors and Business Information: 5/8
Investment Vehicle Characteristics: 11/17
Client Investment Recommendations and Strategies: 22/30
Laws, Regs, and Guidelines: 29/45
My retake is in three weeks, and as I go through the program, I feel like a lot of the Section 1 material is Series 7 content. Since my timeline is short, does the program provide a guide for retakers without starting from the day 1 material? Any feedback is appreciated on how to use the program as a retaker. I found you all a little late, so trying to optimize the best I can, as every day is a day to correct where I was not successful. Thanks.
Thanks for reaching out! I am sorry to hear that your score wasn’t what you hoped for; you were so close. The good news is that you have a solid baseline; all you need to do is fine-tune a few areas, and you will be set for your retake.
Here are two effective ways to use the program efficiently as a retaker:
Option 1: Follow the study plan, but “skip” what you already know.
Enter your exam retake date and follow the daily plan, treating it as a diagnostic track. If the material looks familiar, go to the quiz. If you score 70% or higher, you can proceed to the next sections. If you score below 70%, review that section in the textbook and retake the quiz.
Option 2: Start with a timed practice exam and work backward.
Take a full practice exam under real exam conditions while everything is still fresh. Afterward, use the exam summary to identify your weakest areas (this is more specific than the breakdown the exam provides), then go directly to those textbook sections and review them in depth before taking another practice exam. Repeat this process until you’re scoring consistently in the mid-to-upper 80s; that buffer helps protect you against a tougher-than-usual question set and test-day nerves.
You can also do a mix of both options; the program is very flexible, so you can use it how you wish. Based on your results, the biggest opportunity is Laws, Regulations, and Guidelines (Chapter 4), since it’s the largest portion of the exam and your lowest-scoring section. Improving there will give you the biggest score lift. Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to support you as you study.
