Passed the Series 66 First Attempt: Detailed Reference Point for Others

I passed the Series 66 exam yesterday on the first attempt and I credit Achievable for my preparedness. Here is a summary of my process what I found helpful to prepare. Although everyone operates and learns differently, I hope it will be helpful to you in some way.

I made some adjustments to my Series 66 prep after successfully passing the Series 7 on the first try using Achievable (Detailed reference here). The major adjustments I made were:

  • NOT completing any of the “Review” questions while working through the content
  • I only reviewed the dump sheet content (found here) three different times while taking practice exams

Why did I make these adjustments? First, a LOT of the content in the Series 66 material is identical to the Series 7 content and I was already well versed having recently completed it. *I would highly recommend sticking to the Achievable guidance and leverage the “Review” questions if the content is brand new to you. Second, and related, since I was well versed in the content I felt confident only reviewing the dump sheets a few times instead of each day prior to taking a practice exam. Again, if the content is new for you I would suggest reviewing them daily.

For the Series 66 I ended up taking 7 practice exams in total, including the “Final Exam A” and “Final Exam B”. Here are my results:

  • Final Exam A: PASS - 82%, Time to complete: 1H 58M
  • Final Exam B: PASS - 78%, Time to complete: 1H 51M
  • Final Full Exam #1: PASS - 82%, Time to complete: 1H 37M
  • Final Full Exam #2: PASS - 88%, Time to complete: 3H 10M (I was interrupted for ~1.5 hours)
  • Final Full Exam #3: PASS - 86%, Time to complete: 1H 57M
  • Final Full Exam #4: PASS - 85%, Time to complete: 1H 5M
  • Final Full Exam #5: PASS - 88%, Time to complete: 1H 9M

Exam Readiness after last practice exam = 96%

My practice exam process for each day:

  • Take a Focus quiz on the questions I missed on the practice exam from the previous day
  • Take another full practice exam
  • Review the full exam results immediately following submission (I’ll note that with the last 3 practice exams I quickly clicked through the questions I got correct and focused primarily on the questions I got wrong and WHY I got them wrong)
  • Rinse and repeat the next day

On Exam day, I reviewed the three dump sheets in the parking lot and drew the Options Four Square from memory, then took the exam.

About ~25% of the questions were worded very differently from the practice exams I took through Achievable, but was able to apply the principles learned through the Achievable material to “think beyond the question” and feel confident reasoning through them and selecting an answer.

Overall I am very pleased with my Achievable experience. The Achievable team is incredibly responsive and helpful, and you’re only working against yourself if you don’t reach out to them if you have a question or if something is unclear.

If you have any questions about my experience or process, feel free to respond to this topic and I’ll gladly share and help any way I can.

Cheers!
