I’m struggling to retain the information learned. Does anyone have an tricks or tips to remember this material, I haven’t been in school in many years. Any advice welcome

helps me to take detailed notes on key terms within each chapter rather than just reading through the material

@Wanda_Nienow, You’re definitely not alone - a lot of our students haven’t been in school for years, and it’s very common for the material to take a second or even third pass before it really starts to stick. @Cheryl_Beer’s suggestion about taking notes is a great example of active studying. Simply reading the material can only take you so far, so finding ways to engage with it as you go can make a big difference.
One thing that helps many people is using the Review feature on the main dashboard to revisit older material as they continue through the course. The review questions are designed to bring back concepts you’ve struggled with or haven’t seen in a while, which is great for long-term retention.
Also, don’t feel like you have to remember everything the first time through. Consistent review and repetition are what make the biggest difference over time. You got this!

I’m feeling the same pain. It’ll be my 3rd time taking it and each time I feel like I don’t retain enough info!
Hi @Flora_Hintz, be sure to follow the study plan as you go - it will walk you through all the needed information. Then use the review feature to keep past material fresh. Finding ways to actively read the textbook helps as well, so you can recall the information on the quizzes.

I been having the same issue, particularly with CD’s and Bankers notes-based questions. I found so far that the way to memorize it is to make a very personal example from your own life to the question. It helps conceptualize the example better.

this is literally the worst text book I have ever read. It does a terrible job explaining things - the language is not clear, once you get into the tests about bonds the language references terminology you havent yet learned. Its a disgrace of a textbook.

I think one huge improvement would be to indicate what is actually testable on the SIE Exam. Its currently like drinking from a fire hose with no end in sight. There is so much math in the first 3 chapters and i heard there is hardly any math in the actual exam. We need better guidance on whats relevant. Also, it gets so granular and talks about topics backwards and forwards without helping the student understand the big picture. Another point: The chapter exams use terminology not yet explained, so it becomes really frustrating and confusing. After needing to have AI re-explain things so many times in your textbook, I decided to get Kaplan which is such a smoother, easier read to understand concepts, both big picture and granular. I dont know who wrote the text material but it needs a serious revision.

First, I want to clarify that all of the material we cover is testable on the SIE exam. If it were not testable, we would not include it. We also weight the material based on what is generally highest value. As you mentioned, most people do not encounter a large amount of math, but some absolutely do.
One of the challenges with the SIE is that you are only asked 75 questions from a pool of thousands. Because everyone’s exam is different, the best way to feel confident on test day is to prepare thoroughly across the full range of testable content.
Our chapter exams also use the same terminology taught in the textbook. We do include a small number of distractors that may not have been explicitly covered, because that is something you should expect to encounter on the actual exam as well. Our goal is to prepare you for a realistic testing experience, not just questions that are immediately recognizable from the reading.
That said, if you come across a question or answer choice that you feel is unclear, misleading, or should be flagged, please use the feedback function and give us as much detail as you can. We review that feedback closely and are always happy to take another look at anything that may need improvement.
We often hear that Achievable’s materials are easier to read than those of more traditional providers and can be completed in considerably less time. At the same time, some learners prefer a denser, more traditional textbook style, and I completely understand that our approach will not be the perfect fit for everyone.
