Failed Series 66 exam on my first attempt

I failed my Series 66 exam on my first attempted. I used both achievable and STC as supplement material. Going into the exam, I took 4 achievable exams and passed two of them with exam readiness of 84%. But scored 62% on the actual exam: 6/8 - EF | 11/17 - Characteristics | 16/30 - Strategies | 29/45 - Regulations. Since taking the exam last month, I’ve taken 4 STC exams which I scored: 69%, 65%, 66, and 67%. Then yesterday, I took an achievable exam and scored 88%. My highest on any practice exam with achievable. Please, I would like some guidance ASAP to pass on my second attempt in two weeks or reschedule exam before it’s too late.

Hi @Caleb_Schroeder,

Thanks for sharing your detailed breakdown. I would start by focusing on the areas your scored weakest. From your study report I can see you scored lowest on Characteristics: Insurance, Strategies: Trading securities, Regulations: Registration, and Regulations: Ethics. I would revisit these sections in depth and retake the quizzes to gain a greater understanding to improve your score.

It’s also important to make your practice exams as close to the real testing experience as possible. I noticed you’ve taken some exams in instant feedback mode, while that’s helpful for learning, it doesn’t reflect the actual test environment. To better simulate the real exam, switch to test mode, use the full time allowed, and approach it like the real thing. Aim to consistently score in the mid to upper 80s without instant feedback. After each practice exam, take time to thoroughly review every question, try to understand the reasoning behind the correct answers.

You got this!

Best,
Mataia

You’ve gotten to used to the Achievable test questions. I think you should buy the Kaplan Q bank and test the areas that you scored low on. But most importantly, you need to re-read the chapters with the lower scores. I recommend reading out loud as your inner ear will hear what you say and recall will be better for the test.

Hi, thank you for the reply. Happy to share that I passed the Series 66 exam on my second attempt today.

It was too late to purchase the Kaplan Q bank and disrupt my studying given the exam was 4 days away.

I did take two additional achievable full exams with the explanation off, a total of 9 exams. Additionally, I went back and listened to all 12 STC on-demand lectures to help reinforce the material, specifically I focused on the areas that I’ve scored lowest in on STC and achievable then moved to the areas that I was strong in.

I felt much more prepared today for the exam than the first time. Also, the questions were not as challenging like what I was used to from the practice exams. Lastly, I did use your suggestion with reading the questions out loud which I thought also helped with my memory aid.

Overall, I’m truly happy to have these exams behind me!
