Failed 66 the first time

Hi all, failed the Series 66 by one point today. Below is how I scored:

Economic Factors and Business Information: 8/8
Investment Vehicle Characteristics: 13/17
Client Investment Recommendations and Strategies: 22/30
Laws, Regulations, and Guidelines: 29/45

After reading a couple of the past posts, I think the best course of action is to reread and redo chapter quizzes regarding Laws/Regs and Client Recommendations. I’ll also skim over Investment Vehicle Characteristics, but the core of my studying will be between the sections I did the worst in. While studying for my first attempt, I also bought the Kaplan Qbank to supplement my studying, which I will continue to do this second time around. Does my plan sound good enough to prep me for the second attempt? I’m thinking of taking it in 30 days.

Hi @Elsie_Raynor, you were so close! I have a couple of tips that will help you pass this second go-around. Your strategy of attacking areas of weakness identified in your Series 66 scores is great, but I have some additional feedback that will help.

At this point, I think the best first step would be to take another full-length practice exam to help determine the main areas to focus on. I reviewed your account and recommend that you slow down when taking the full-length practice exams. You went through them in less than half the time. It is essential to read each question carefully. One strategy that may help is to read the entire question, and before reading the answer choices, visualize what possible answers could be. This way, you can determine whether you understand the question.

Additionally, spending a significant amount of time reviewing your full-length practice exams is essential. Go through each question and explanation for around 1-2 hours to identify areas of weakness. When you do that, you can go back to those textbook sections and do the associated quizzes to build up your understanding of those concepts.

I recommend repeating that process, and you will see improvements in your scores.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support you. Thank you,
-Brenden

Ok, thank you for the advice! 30 days should be enough to review and retake right?

Hi @Elsie_Raynor, given your circumstances, yes. If you follow what I outlined above and see that your full-length practice exam scores continue to rise, you should be in great shape!

Hi @Elsie_Raynor,

Would you be comfortable sharing your scores in Kaplan in the days leading up to the exam? In my experience, there’s something magical about getting scores into the low to mid 80s consistently (assuming the questions haven’t been memorized).

That’s an awesome performance in Econ and Business Info, BTW!

Wishing you all the best,

Cindy

Hi @Cindy_K

I’ll make a note to update this thread with Kaplan QBank scores, will most likely start taking them about two weeks out.

Thank you for your kind words, just need to make sure I understand the rest of the exam haha.
