Working to become a Financial Advisor

What advice would you give someone who is pursuing a career as a financial advisor?

I have 3 years of banking experience and two business degrees, currently working to complete the SIE.

I have been frustrated for years now because it feels like a very gatekept field. It seems like you have to know someone in your family or personally to be given a chance.

I also live in a very small area with limited opportunities, all the local firms I’ve spoken to say I’m doing “all the right things!” but again it’s frustrating when there are no jobs near me.

I guess I am just looking for more reassurance I am on the right path and see if there is any advice as I am very open to suggestions!

I have met with many firms in bigger cities I’ve met through networking and they have all but offered me a position asking when I will be in the area so my plan is to move once I get the SIE done so I can actually get the 7 etc.

Yeah, it can definitely be tough to break in, especially without local connections. But frankly, it does sound like you’re doing all the right things.

To boost your chances, try building your network online too. Have you considered joining finance groups on LinkedIn or Reddit? Warm intros can come from unexpected places.

Keep pushing. You’re on the right path - just gotta hang in there!
