Tips for applying/advice

I am recent college grad with a degree in poli sci working to pass my SIE, I currently work in logistics managing multiple large accounts which I feel may help down the line somewhat on a resume. However, if I am trying to break into the financial industry what may be some tips for applying to jobs and what to look for. I have looked into companies like northwestern mutual & fidelity but haven’t heard such great things. Any tips on what to after passing the SIE exam on how to move forward? I am looking to eventually get into wealth mamagemet.

It sounds like you’re on the right track!

Larger companies like NM, Fidelity, Chase, etc., will likely be your best bet since they can afford to hire and train newcomers to the industry.

My recommendation is to get a finance job wherever you can, gain some experience in the field to strengthen your profile as a candidate, and then figure out your career path from there!

Thanks for the advice here Justin. One of the positions I was looking at was the financial advisee training program that focuses on selling insurance policies. Do you feel like this is a good starting role or what jobs do you think I should be looking for while looking at these companies?

Great question - it depends a bit on what kind of working environment you’d like.

Some people thrive in sales, whereas other folks prefer to focus on back-office or client relationship roles. It’s really just up to you.

We’ve had many customers transitioning from insurance sales to wealth management; it’s definitely related experience and a reasonable career path.
