Question regarding verbal

Could someone explain why the first choice is incorrect, even though you can technically argue that it would weaken the argument, since if fishing has been a tradition, how could it suddenly become a pressing issue.

And in general for the Verbal section, I feel like there are answers that can be argued and via mental gymnastics be said to be the right answer, and they usually are not. Does the GRE prioritize more straightforward and obvious answers that relate directly to the problem or does it prefer you to think very deeply about the different perspectives this question can be looked upon.

Hi, I’m happy to help, but I’d need to see that passage!

In general, although the GRE verbal quizzes feel vague, there is always a hint that makes one choice significantly stronger than the others.
