CH 14: Circle Problems Practice Question 3

After creating the central angle equation: 64π = (Shaded Area) + (32π/3) how do I subtract (32π/3) from 64π to get 160π/3? Its not making sense for me.

Hi @Husky_tan_tapir, welcome!

So we want to do: 64pi - 32pi/3

We can rewrite 64pi expressed as a fraction over three, by multiplying by 1 in the form of 3/3. This is ok, because multiplying by 1 does not change the value.

64pi * 1
64pi * 3/3
(64pi * 3) / 3
192pi/3

So 64pi and 192pi/3 are different ways of expressing the same value.

So we can now do: 192pi/3 - 32pi/3 = 160pi/3
