CFA Level 1 For College Student

Approaching my junior year of college and passed the SIE last march. I’m interested in external wholesaling but want to keep doors open for exit opportunities later in my career. Had an internship in business development this summer and will try to get something more product focused next summer.

Was wondering if you see the CFA charter as a worthy investment? I want to get a couple of the exams done in college while I still have some free time. Really enjoyed the couple months I spent studying for the SIE and am looking for a new challenge.

Hi @Teri_Renner

Given your interest in external wholesaling and desire to keep future options open, the CFA charter can be a strong strategic move. It’s best for you if you’re aiming for product roles, investment strategy, or portfolio consulting later in your career. It also helps if you want to signal analytical strength early on and genuinely enjoy studying valuation, markets, and investment analysis. Taking Levels I or II in college can set you apart when applying for product-facing internships or full-time roles at asset managers and investment firms.

That said, the CFA is less ideal if you plan to stay strictly in sales or client-facing roles long term. If you’re primarily looking for licenses to sell investment products, Series 6 or 7 would be more relevant and less time-consuming. The CFA is a long-term commitment and best suited for roles requiring deep financial analysis. If you’re still exploring, consider starting with Level I - if the content aligns with your interests and long-term goals, it’s worth pursuing.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mataia, I’m wondering, does Achievable have any plans to expand to CFA or CFP prep courses? I’ve really enjoyed studying on here so far and one of those might be my next move!

We’re not working on a CFA or CFP course at this time, but we’re always working to expand our course catalog!

We’re glad you love Achievable and appreciate your feedback; we prioritize course development based on people’s requests.
