Hi! I just got my PhD degree in biology and wanted to switch my career to finance. Currently I’m thinking about obtaining the SIE certificate and maybe apply for equity research roles. It’s so hard to get a job in finance with no prior experience. Would SIE actually help me get a job? What else should I do to improve my chance?

Hi! If you’re interested in a career in finance, the SIE is definitely a great first step. It will help you build knowledge on a wide variety of finance topics, demonstrate your initiative, and, most importantly, show that you can study for and pass these exams.
We wrote a blog post on this topic!
Other than passing the SIE, the best advice I can give is to stay organized. Make a spreadsheet of prospects, reach out to everyone around the same time, and make your job hunt a sprint rather than a drawn-out process.
